SoulShine Day Camps

On select holidays and school breaks, SoulShine After School offers day camps

7:30 am to 6:30 pm (morning drop off 7:30 am to 9:30 am)

Children ages 5 through 12 (4-year olds who are not currently enrolled in a preschool and who will turn 5 by September 1, 2017, may enroll in a day camp)

 

Day Camp Activities

Day Campers will find themselves well occupied and entertained!

Our camps typically include:

  • Field trip or a guest speaker
  • Outdoor play
  • Permaculture-based activities focused on farming, gardening, composting, cooking, economics, self-sufficiency
  • Opportunities to learn how to do something new or offer service to the community

Day Camp Schedule:

Drop off:  7:30 am to 9:30 am
Morning snack: 9:30 am
Field Trip and/or Guest Speaker: 10:00 am - 2:30 pm (we will return no later than 2:30)
Afternoon Snack: 2:30 pm
Afternoon Activities and Pick-Ups: 3:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Lunch is scheduled during the Field Trip.

Preparing for Day Camp

Apparel

Your child will be outdoors and may get dirty, so please provide appropriate attire and footwear for activities and weather. Please pack an extra change of clothes for each day of camp.

Pack a Lunch
Please pack a large, healthy non-refrigerated lunch and a water bottle for each day of camp.

SoulShine is a NUT-FREE facility.

Snacks
Two healthy snacks will be provided each day (9:30 am and 3:00 pm)

When cooking demonstrations and food-based activities are scheduled, campers will have the opportunity to sample what has been prepared. Eating the samples is not required.

Physical Risk
Our activities are age-appropriate, professionally supervised and instructed.

Field trips could bring campers in contact with gentle livestock such as goats, chickens and pigs.

 

Wholesome Food

SoulShine places a high priority on providing high-quality, unprocessed food. After-School kids enjoy snacks prepared with the same care and focus on:

  • Locally grown (whenever possible)
  • Organic
  • Made from whole, fresh ingredients
  • Vegetarian
  • Prepared by our own chef

Every snack contains high quality protein and/healthy fats, which will help balance blood sugar levels; reduce mood swings.

Permaculture

Permaculture is a toolbox of ecological and resource-wise practices that create a more balanced and fair relationship with the earth and the people who inhabit it. By studying the patterns of nature and working with them, we become more harmonious participants in life and living. Permaculture works toward building a more regenerative landscape, and encompasses using less energy, eating wholesome, local food, involving your family in the life of the community and making wiser choices that will improve the quality of life for your family, your community and the environment around you.
