  • Pick up/drop policies
PICK UP Parents/guardians must ○ Check the child out using BrightWheel ○ Accompany their child out of the building/to their car. Kirkwood Parking: Please do not use the drive of 2048 Hosea to park or drive on at all, when parking for the building that houses our infants. It does not belong to SoulShine and we will be fined for usage. If a child will be picked up by persons other than the parent/guardian. Children will only be released to parents or to those individuals listed on the Child’s Personal Record as people authorized to pick up and/or emergency contacts. (see Absence Policy below). If a person other than a parent/guardian or other authorized individual will be picking up a child, written/emailed notification including the individual’s full name is required. Picture identification will be required such as a driver’s license. SoulShine After School reserves the right to refuse the release of a child to an individual who has insufficient identification or appears impaired. LATE PICK UP FINES Parents/guardians who pick up their children after 5:35 PM are considered late. If you are going to be late for any reason, contact SoulShine After School at 678-221-4792 as soon as possible. After 5:35 PM, individuals will be fined $1.00 per minute until they arrive. This fine will be increased to $3.00 per minute after three (3) offenses. LATE PICK UP ON EARLY RELEASE DAYS Early release days happen four times per year at SoulShine. Two early-release days are devoted to Student Reflections, and the other two are used for Staff Training. On early-release days, SoulShine Preschool closes at 3:30. A tardy fine of $25 will be charged for any child picked up between 3:30 and 3:45. If it’s after 3:45, the tardy fine will be $75. DROP-OFF TIME VIOLATIONS Drop-off times are not suggestions for parents; they are requirements for parents to respect so that the daily routine is not disrupted for an entire classroom. We can accommodate the occasional need, but not without notice. Any parent/guardian who fails to notify us of a late arrival during a restricted time period will be assessed a $25 fine per occurrence.
  • Child Medications Policy and Protocols
With the exception of diaper rash creams, SoulShine’s staff will not administer medication to include over the counter, unless the medication is accompanied by a prescription and/or a doctor’s note. No prescription medication will be dispensed to a child without detailed, written instructions from the child’s parent/guardian. The written instructions should include the child’s full name, the date, the medication name, the dosage, the time of day the medication should be given, any other specific instructions and the parent/guardian’s signature. The medication must be in the original container. SoulShiners are responsible for storing their own medication – in a plastic bag, within their backpack. The Director will notify the student when it is time to retrieve the medication and will watch that the medication has been taken properly.
  • Parent Involvement
School Parents play a vital role in the SoulShine community. School Parents assist the site directors with communicating with other classrooms’ school parents on matters such as birthdays, births, bereavements and other life events. The School Parent will have access to parent contacts and teacher favorite documents. If you’d like to volunteer as a School Parent, please contact your child's site director for more information.
  • What safety protocols are the staff trained for?
All staff members are trained on safety rules, special hazards, and commonly occurring accidents. They receive detailed instructions on evacuation procedures for fire and storm, the use of fire extinguishers, and how to report an accident. All staff members are trained in CPR and pediatric first aid. The children are under adult supervision at all times. Written procedures for fire and storm evacuation are posted in each classroom and are practiced monthly with the children.
  • What is the teacher/student ratio group size?
SoulShine strives to provide a teacher to child ratio that exceeds Bright From the Start requirements. When that is not possible, SoulShine will never violate Bright From the Start ratio policy.
  • What ages are accepted?
Enrollment is open to children starting at six weeks of age up to five years of age, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, religion, political affiliation, or physical disabilities insofar as we are able to provide quality services for the child and space is available.
  • Does my child need to be potty-trained to attend SoulShine?
No. Potty training becomes more of a focus and part of the curriculum at SoulShine in the 2-year-old classrooms. SoulShine will begin potty training with a child when they enter the 2 year old classrooms.
  • How are children grouped?
Children are grouped by age and level of development. Each school is a little unique on the age ranges so please contact us for more specific information.

  • How can I dis-enroll my child?
A minimum of four weeks written notice is required to withdraw your child or cancel a reserved position. Notify us by emailing enrollment@makeyoursoulshine.com. If notice is not given, then you will be charged tuition for each week for up to four weeks. The last day of enrollment must fall on the last day of the week of the fourth week. This applies even if your child is not attending. If you decide not to bring your child to SoulShine after accepting a confirmed classroom space, you must provide four weeks’ notice of cancellation or pay equivalent tuition up to four weeks. There will be no exception to the requirement for four weeks’ notice.
  • Attendance Rules
Attendance is not mandatory, however we appreciate advance notice of absences and/or late arrival/early pickups. This allows us to plan for staffing as well as how many meals we need to prepare. ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL/SOULSHINE AFTER SCHOOL For the safety of your child and every other child in SoulShine After School, it is mandatory that you let us know if your child is going to be absent. Safety protocols dictate that we account for every child before we leave the school. A single missing child can halt our departure from the school and split the staff’s attention for 30 minutes. If you know before noon that your child will not be in after school, you must notify us via the BrightWheel app • After noon, you must notify us by phone at 678-221-4792 If you fail to notify us of your child’s absence prior to school pick-up, you will be fined $25 for each occurrence. Should you have three (3) or more no-call or no-email occurrences we reserve the right to terminate your contract. Tuition is still due in full even if your child is absent from SoulShine After School due to illness, vacation, etc.
