OUR VISION

We create an environment where everyone from the children, parents, staff and community — can shine.

By embracing each other with love and acceptance for our differences and strengths, we create a community based on acceptance and belonging for our individuality as well as our contributions to the group.

OUR MISSION

We pledge to treat everyone fairly, equally and with respect.

SoulShine provides an exceptional, ecology-based childhood educational experience while cultivating a sense of belonging, worthiness, and purpose in the world.

HEART-FORWARD, LEGACY-FOCUSED

Our Story

SoulShine was launched as a modest after school program.

In 2006 founder, Shannon Smith-SengStack, and a small group of parents opened a new creative space for the community seeking a unique, heart-forward, eco-aware approach to learning and development for their children.

Today SoulShine has grown into an expansive educational organization, with four locations offering infant, preschool, pre-k, and school-aged education and care.

We are proud of the relationships and grateful for the opportunity to forge lasting, positive impacts on our children, staff family, parents, and the larger local and global community. We are humbled and inspired when our students return to and express gratitude for all they learned at SoulShine. We love hearing how their lives have been shaped in meaningful ways. It is these legacies, grown through lessons of self-empathy, community wellbeing, eco-stewardship, and resiliency, that inspire our educators to continue the good work.

Permaculture Inspired

SoulShine places nature study and eco-stewardship at the forefront of our academics, while creating strong social, emotional, and educational foundations.

Our permaculture-inspired curriculum brings awareness to the relationship between us and our natural surroundings, and cultivates a healthy appreciation and respect for our planet.

SoulShine teaching is inspired by the local ecosystem. Each play-based learning experience uses up-cycled, recycled, and forest-foraged materials that are harvested locally and seasonally.

Experiential Learning

SoulShine invests in our children beyond their daily academic instruction and schedule.

They participate bi-weekly in unique, small-scale educational classes that are designed to empower them through yoga, mindfulness, outdoor play time, music, movement, Spanish language, sign language and more.

Farm-To-Jar

The SoulShine kitchen is devoted to clean eating.

Because we believe locally grown, responsibly-sourced, nutrient-dense food is the ideal foundation for a child’s well-being, we source vegetables, dairy, and eggs from local farms. Following permaculture principles, our preferred farms utilize regenerative agriculture practices and raise fair trade organic crops.

Our in-house chef creates seasonal menus that help guide the taste buds of little people who will start off knowing how good it feels to feel good!

Revolutionizing education to reclaim a healthy future.
